MSA has issued a Stop Use Notice for Descenders.
Please read this document thoroughly and take appropriate action to follow the recommendations of the manufacturer.
If you have further questions, please direct them to MSA at 1-800-MSA-2000.
American Rock Climbing, Inc. is currently investigating other options for auto belays for our products. Hydraulic belays have been used with our equipment at times over the years and may be installed.
In the next few weeks we expect to have an alternative to the Descender. As a service to our customers, we will have special pricing to help offset the cost of outfitting climbing walls which need a replacement for the Redpoints.

The Descender is a controlled auto belay descent device for the
recreational rock climbing industry. The device provides a hands
free belay for the climber, thereby eliminating the need for
an additional climber or attendant to serve as belayer.
Lower staff numbers means lower cost
of operation. One staff member can operate three belay stations.
Instructors are more free to coach climbers
as they no longer need to belay them.
Climbers enjoy solo climbing without
the need for a belay partner.
No wires. decenders use high
strength webbing and steel carabiners, safe for use outdoors
and in areas near salt water.
Professionally built belays by a company
with over 40 years of experience.
Self contained belays for each climber,
instead of central mechanics, help prevent costly wall closures.
The Descender is installed on a climbing
wall where a top-rope would typically be used, but unlike the
top-rope, the climber cannot hang suspended by the Descender
once he or she has let go of the wall. The
climber will always be lowered to the ground at a continuous,
controlled rate.
The line automatically retracts into
the unit, permitting repeated descents.
